Also called Nazi Germany (Official name Deutsches Reich refers to Germany from 1933 to 1945, when it was governed by the Nationalsozialstische Deutsche Arbeiterpartei (Nazi party), with Adolf Hitler as the chancellor and later head of state. The foreign policy pursued by Nazi Germany was the main cause of the Second World War.
The German Panzer force was not impressive at the start of the war.Only 4% of the defence budget was spent on armored vehicles. At the beginning of the war Germans mostly relied on Panzer III and Panzer IV. Panzer III was considered under-gunned with a 37 mm gun and the production was split between four manufactures (Krupp, MAN, Daimler-Benz and Rheinmetall-Borsig) which made the rate of production very low.
The Blitzkrieg was an amazing success due to innovation in tactics rather than tank quality. Actually, German armor was doing poorly in tank-on-tank encounters. Later Panzer III got a 50mm gun and a new Maybach engine.

During World War 2 the tank has reached new heights of capability and sophistication. People realized that tanks would play a major role in any war, bringing fear and destruction upon enemy troops and tanks. There have been numerous models of tanks, with different capabilities and different purpose. This blog will mostly focus on American an German tanks, as they were most sophisticated at the time.
